Often at this time of the year, it can seem like time seems to speed up galloping towards the end of the year. There can seem like there are so many things to do which were all due yesterday. Remember to catch yourself if you are holding your breathe. Release the exhalation, and say the words Longer, deeper, slower.....this will activate relaxation and a decrease in stress. Rather than focus on the end of the year or getting to Xmas where you nay have time off, experience each day more consciously. Take your time to engage in your tasks with more awareness, more of you present, rather than living in your head, not grounded in your body. Come down from the sky back to earth with these words to ground you quickly. #groundthroughconsciousbreathing

When we are disciplined in saying no to things that do not align with our values, priorities, passions, purpose, and principles, then we find more freedom in our days and more peace in our lives. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ One way we have found to reduce our levels of stress is to proactively manage our time. "Busy" is not a word we like to use and is a red flag for us to stop and evaluate if our schedule reflects our values or if we are saying yes to things outside of them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Things can quickly get busy with seasons and holidays, so it is even more important during these last months of the year for us to ask the questions of, "is this in alignment with our values and priorities?" and "is this necessary, good, and healthy and getting us closer to where we want to be?" ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When we say yes to something, we say no to everything else. The question to ask isn't even, "is this something to say yes to," rather, "is this something worthy of saying no to everything else?" ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ These simple questions have helped us so much. We have streamlined our schedules and are quicker to spot the places where we may need to make adjustments. I wanted everyone in my life to think I was calm & cool. When I was actually a nervous frickin wreck, ready to break into tears all day long over the littlest thing...or really over nothing. I could smile and pose like I was happy, but deep inside I wanted to die. I just wanted my pose to match the feeling inside of me. • Is this you also? Je kunt alleen een gezonde relatie met stress opbouwen als er een goede balans is tussen inspanning en ontspanning. Je hebt zelf invloed op deze balans, al lijkt dat misschien niet altijd zo en vergt het aardig wat oefening. I see stress as something positive. Stress helps me to work faster and better, makes me more alert and makes me feel challenged. When stress becomes useful we speak of positive stress. If stress persists too long, positive stress can unfortunately also turn into negative stress. In that case stress becomes chronic. You can prevent chronic stress (and burnout) by building a healthy relationship with stress. You can only build a healthy relationship with stress if there is a good balance between stress and relaxation. As we are preparing to begin our lifestyle medicine program at mission, I have been reviewing the literature behind the six components that makes up a hole and healthy approach to maximizing well being. The research is extremely compelling. I have always strive to practice what I have preach and walk the talk but I m realizing that we have focused so much on nutrition and exercise and have virtually ignored rest and sleep. Being a surgeon is beyond stressful, and late night phone calls can ruin sleep. I am going to start making a very conscientious effort to maximize each of this six areas. All too often I see people focus on one or two of this areas but to truly be healthy they all need to be addressed and prioritized. We would be teaching classes on each of these six pillars with experts in each of these fields. Have you ever felt bloated after a meal, had acid reflux or lots of farts ❓ ⁣ There is a chance that your stomach acid (hydrochloric acid) is ⬇️!⁣ Stomach acid is very important for breaking down your food 🍲 elimination of ingested bacteria 🦠 mineral and vitamin B12 absorption ✔️⁣ ⁣ How do you know if you actually have low HCl levels❔⁣ ⁣ You can do these 2 tests at home:⁣ 1️⃣ Baking soda acid test🔹 mix 1/4 tsp of baking soda with 120 mL of cold water and drink it in the morning with an empty stomach. If it takes more than 5 minutes or you do not burp at all, it's a sign of low stomach acid. You should perform it several times (on different days) to confirm the results. ⁣ ⁣ 2️⃣ Betaine HCl challenge test🔹 you will need to buy pills of Betaine HCl. When you are having a meal with protein, take 1 tablet and continue eating. If you feel a BURNING SENSATION on your chest, it means that your acid levels are fine. If you do not, then for the next protein meal, increase the amount to 2 pills. This goes on until you feel the burning feeling. When you get there, reduce the number of pills by one in your next meals. Continue with this amount until you feel the burning sensation again, then reduce until you only have to take 1 pill. After that, stop.⁣ ⁣ I also did this test myself and needed to take as much as 11 💊 in order to feel the burning sensation. I know, it's a lot 😲 but it's totally worth it.⁣ Once you restore your stomach acid level, your body won't need the pills anymore because it gets used to the amount of acid it needs to produce by itself.⁣ ❕ It is advisable to consult a doctor before taking so many acid stomach pills. If you have stomach ulcers, the pills might not be a safe option.⁣ ⁣ And there is more! When food is not digested properly, undigested particles arrive at the colon where bacteria 🦠 ferment them. This can lead to bloating, smelly gas and constipation. In this case, taking digestive enzymes can help easer these complaints 👌⁣ ⁣ Check the link in the bio to read my whole blog post!👆⁣

Do you get out in nature enough? Take time out for yourself? Breath in the natural, fresh air? It's so important to shut off our minds every so often, avoid screens, emails, social media for a while... . This was Torc waterfall last weekend. We spent a night away from work, responsibilities, housework, etc last weekend and really felt the benefit of it this week. I was more prepared for everything the busy week threw at me... A last minute Nutrition talk.. easy The start of my healthy eating course.. calm An open evening for prospective students @cnmireland... enjoyable Skype meetings, committee meetings, clients... a breeze Preparing for health talks.. And all this before any dinner prep, childcare, housework and my regular job! . Even reading all that could make you feel stressed! The point is.. everyone has busy lives whether you are working, self-employed, a stay at home parent, a socialite! The trick is to keep a balance. Work at at your 'job' but take the time to rest and enjoy life too. It makes the busy times less stressful. . Stress has a very negative impact on the body, causing inflammation, mental health difficulties and a number of symptoms to manifest physically within the body. Often stress is the trigger for conditions such as colitis, migraines, gastritis and stomach ulcers, infertility, cancer and many more. . Because of this, it correlates with things like lower fitness levels and undesirable body composition. You can turn this around by limiting your daily screen time. You always think you gonna get a great beverage when the name of the cafe is @cocodimamauk And to be honest, I really wasn’t disappointed! The coffee was really smooth and was loaded with this intense chocolate taste in the coffee. The acidity was really low though, which works out well for me because that is why I prefer! The interior was pretty cool with the neon lights and I am not sure if yall know but I prefer the cafes with a quick takeaway option- so this is great to go on your lunch break! Thank you so much!
