As a result, many of us are experiencing not just external disorientation but also an identity crisis around our self-worth. Well, experiencing a confused sense of self is normal in abnormal times. One of the few things in life I actually love being overwhelmed by is a big TBR pile. ❤️👍🏻 🙋🏼‍♀️ When the stay-at-home order started, my “to-do” list was huge. I was going to get into shape, do a ton of things around the house, be a model teacher for my son at home, work on my business, and of course read a ton of books... 📖 📚 😍 Basically reinvent myself and my whole family at the same time! 😆 My list was very ambitious! 🏃‍♀️ 💫🥇 Fast forward about 10 weeks and yes, I did do a few big things on my list like repaint my living room and kitchen, start a victory garden, put in a fence, and work on my business, but a lot of things are still a “to-do”... 😩 It took me awhile to realize I’m at no one’s pace but my own, that comparing myself to the “perfect” social media world isn’t going to make me feel better. Lately it’s made me feel depressed, alone, frustrated, helpless, and even angry as I watch people - many my friends or family - bicker over politics and the covid-19 virus. 💣 Seeing people treat each other with such malice and spreading of misinformation so carelessly - the amount of fear out there is palpable. 😔 ❤️ So I turn to my inner self, hold up my shield🛡 to keep the ugly, negative stuff out, and take a look at my list. Books. A stack of books to be read is like a bunch of new friends welcoming you into their circle. My vow to myself: - Be kind, monitor social media time, and read a book! It’s strong and resilient and was able to endure trials to bring this baby into the world. No, it won’t go back to the way it was and in a way, it shouldn’t. It has adjusted to the miraculous. The marks and scars are evidence of a miracle that took place. ♥️ You are not a failure because you didn’t finish your to-do list or because you were grumpier than you’d like to be. You are caring for precious souls who don’t like to sleep normal hours, don’t communicate at full capacity, are learning to navigate this new world, and who suddenly depend on you for everything. You are growing up together. You are a learner and you have way more than you are used to on your plate.
