The KB Bottoms up press. A variation I'm currently using and one I've given to quite a few of my clients recently. This exercise provides a great challenge to your full body stability, strength and motor control. Holding the KB upside down creates instability, which calls for additional muscle fibres and motor units to be recruited to control the unstable load and remain balanced. Not just from the shoulder, but an irradiation effect occurs whereby, other nearby muscles contract hard to create more strength and stability - in this case, the muscles of the forearm will be working incredibly hard, as well as muscles of the upper back and the whole torso. . 👉🏾 It's a great exercise to include in an off season program or when regular pressing movements are beginning to aggrevate your elbow or shoulder joints. - 👉🏾 Lighter absolute loads are used which give the shoulder and elbow joints a break from regular pressing, but they still build huge amounts of stability in the shoulder - improtant for strength as well as shoulder health and injury prevention. - 👉🏾 It's agreat exercise to force you to keep tight and in a mechanically sound position. It's almost physically imposible to get consistent reps out with any substantial load if you're loose and out of position. - 👉🏾 It strengthens all facets of your grip. They require significant a squeezing/crushing of the first, calling upon all fibres available from the fingers, hands and forearms. - So give these a try. You won't be able to use the same weight as you would for your usual dumbell press. Start light, focus on staying tight and compact and keeping control of the KB throughout every rep. Your shoulders and elbows will thank you for it.

💪Increasing stability in an exercise generally means you can target the muscle tissue intended a lot more creating a greater stimulus. Putting more intent where you are trying to target and decreasing the chances of injury. ✅ ⁣ ⁣ ❌ In the first clips, I am using a lot of momentum to complete the movement. I am not maximising the amount of muscular output on the tissue I intend on targeting, as I am relying on other areas to basically assist the movement. ❌⁣ I’m not saying preforming the exercises these ways are necessarily bad as long as you are under control and understand the mechanics of the movement.🏋️‍♀️ ⁣ ⁣ ✅ In the second clips, I am using the bench as a support for my upper body. These movements are coming from flexing and extending through the elbow joint, so locking everything into place means I can only preform what is intended. I then know if any movement occurs from elsewhere, I’m compensating somehow. ⁣ ⁣ 🏋️‍♀️Creating more stability and knowing where the stability should come from for these movements and many others leads to lifting more weight, with better control/form and more tension towards the targeted tissue. So more gains‼️✅
