INGREDIENTS MATTER // You’ve likely heard they hype about personal care products being preservatives free, paraben free and fragrance free - but I hate to tell you, that’s not the whole story! We can get caught up in the marketing of a product but that’s never the whole story. When it comes to skincare, it’s important to look at the all-important ingredient list for the good AND the not-so-good ingredients - like emulsifiers. Emulsifiers are binding agents that help to hold the ingredients of a product together. The result is no separation but emulsifiers also work counterintuitively to combine unlike products - like oil and water.

Often, we get fixated within our internal biases, and it’s not until we take a moment of reflection and honesty to unravel these complicated, hard-hearted feelings of anger that we realize how self-centered we’ve been. • But why wouldn’t we want to hang onto our anger? It empowers us, right? Actually, anger is an incredibly draining emotion and the tighter we clutch to it, the worse we feel in the long run. The person who suffers the most is the one experiencing the anger, not the person that the anger is being directed towards. Some people stress about their meals because they focus on things like how much fat is in this, that’s too high in carbs or i wonder how much sugar is in this. Others may stress about their meals simply because they are stressed & turn to food. Today was a sunny day. Today the snow was as white as ever and the sun was gently shining over the winter wonderland. We had a beautiful snowy Monday!!! Also is it just me or is a toothless smiles the BEST EVER?!?! look at this cute thang! ❄️ I woke up early!! Got a post published, a newsletter out, played in the snow, had some calls! Feeling good! ❄️ Here is the thing, I have been having a tough time getting going in the morning. And I seriously feel like it’s messing with my productivity. ❄️ I am not thinking it’s a flare, I honestly think it’s more to do with understanding and developing into a new normal.... my old routine was up at 5 working out 45 minutes then shower/be at work at 715... ❄️ I was super enjoying sleeping in for a bit when I first left corporate... but now I just feel lazy. ❄️ It’s not the sleeping in that makes me feel lazy it’s that I wake up and intentionally go back to sleep instead of following my bodies natural rhythm to wake up.... ❄️ For the rest of this week, I am going to try and listen to my body. Lights out when I start to feel tired, not one more episode of @queereye ❄️ I am also going to get out of bed when I wake up naturally. I won’t even tell you how long it took me to put all these little peg letters together on this board 😬 annnnnnywayyyyyyyyy, who here has got a ton of compassion and understanding for others but struggles turning it around and giving it back to themselves? 🙋🏻‍♀️ It’s okay guys, we can work on that! As humans we tend to be the hardest on ourselves than anyone else around us. How can we ease up?! ✨RADICAL SELF ACCEPTANCE.✨ This is something we can practice. It won’t come naturally at first but it is so worth it. In essence, radical self acceptance is just how it sounds. It’s allowing ourselves to be perfectly imperfect. Reminding ourselves “I did my best.” It’s being kind to yourself like you would your own parent or partner or child or friend. It’s allowing ourselves make mistakes because that’s how we learn. The best part of radical self acceptance? The shame of not being perfect just melts away. All of a sudden, we can be our own friend and give ourselves just as much love as we give out. Micro Monday Meditations 🌸 We’ve come up with 5 ways for you to practice meditation, even when you’re on the go during your busy week! 1. Give yourself a two minute break during the day and focus on your breath. Allow your full attention to focus on the air going in and out of your body. 2. Light a candle when you get home and focus on the space between yourself and the candle. Notice how peaceful the space is that exists between. 3. Identify where most of the tension in your body exists. Find that spot, and envision that place physically relaxing. Feel it within yourself and send kindness and positivity to it. 4. Find your center. Focus on where you feel a humming sensation in your body and appreciate it. Imagine that sensation spreading throughout your body. 5. Sit in silence with your eyes closed and focus on the sounds around you. Check in with yourself - what do you hear? Life is full of stress! I get it, it comes fro, everywhere: sitting in traffic, deadlines, relationships, financial pressures and the list goes on. The sad part is that unfortunately, many of us are so accustomed to stress that it feels like a part of our daily norm. But, friends, I have some news for you... this constant state of stress is a nasty little cycle that feeds on itself.⠀ ⠀ Some of the health problems you can encounter in this chronic stress cycle, include:⠀ • Digestive complaints (bloating, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome)⠀ • Weakened immune system ⠀ • Menstrual cycle abnormalities ⠀ • Headaches ⠀ • Reduced thyroid function⠀ • Weight gain ⠀ • Anxiety ⠀ • Insomnia ⠀ • Heart disease⠀ • …etc⠀ ⠀ ⠀ I totally get it, there are just some stressors that may be difficult to avoid at the moment. Do you yoga? ⠀⠀ I have found yoga to be so beneficial, mentally and physically. ⠀⠀ At first I didn’t think of it to be much of a workout, but now it’s just what I need. It’s stress relieving and when you stick with your practice, you build strength. ⠀⠀ I highly recommend Yoga with Adriene! She is doing a month-long yoga program called Home. It’s all on YouTube and it’s all free. Jump in where we’re at or start at the beginning. + CALORIE - WORKOUT = bull💩 . If you ask me if I workout, YUP, I do & I LOVE IT! I no longer workout because I feel like it’s something I HAVE to do to even the score with the pizza or cheeseburger I had last night... . Let me tell you a quick story - In high school I was a track sprinter. I was in love with running it made me feel SO good. It motivated me to help others feel empowered by being physically fit.. but then I became obsessed with being “too fit”.. “too healthy”.. I didn’t want any food that I ate to ruin all the work I was putting in on the track.. So it had to be only “healthy”.. I wanted to be a small compact muscle running machine.. so I became the girl who brought canned tuna & canned oysters to lunch... (my friends noses can attest to that 😂) . I actually still love those 2 foods, but in HS I wasn’t eating them just because I developed a love for their flavor.. & even though school lunches were definitely sub par with nutrition I wasn’t doing it just for nutrition reasons. I was doing it because if I ate the bad food then I had to run more sprints, I had to lift the extra weights.. . I was obsessed with the input output method, obsessed w/ being fit AF, obsessed w/ trying to figure out what was the healthiest food I could put in my body, obsessed with how my body looked because I felt like I needed to be & eat a certain way to be “healthy”. . Fast forward to now... I no longer eat that way. I eat intuitively, why? Because the calorie counting method only ever did one thing for me.. made me disconnected with my food & my body.. which in turn made me use working out as a punishment or way to equal out the food I’d had (‘healthy or not’).. . I now eat foods without the judgement or worry of what workout will burn this off of me. . I workout because I love to feel my body move, feel it grow stronger, & accept the challenge to turn it into the best version it can be so that I can do activities I love like running, hiking, yoga, pilates & kayaking! . You can heal. You can fix the way you connect with your food & your body. Take it from me, I’ve been there & back 🤍. . & I’m Accepting new clients & workout partners!

CHECKING IN. ❌ It’s a funny thing. Sewing is something I love. And I started working on the idea of FeelGood Fibers with my husband in order to share my love of sewing with more people.  Yet, ironically, as we’ve been developing FGF, I find myself having less and less time doing the original thing that I love!💁🏻‍♀️ So I haven’t been in my sewing space much these past few months. But instead, I have been allocating my creative time to working hard behind-the-scenes to build @feelgoodfibers into the kind of creative community you’d want to be a part of when it launches on February 2nd. What that means for you is that I don’t have the photos of works-in-progress to share with you on IG. However, please don’t take my lack of posting content as a sign of being disengaged.  If anything, I’ve been following along even closer with you, watching your progress and cheering your successes. 🎉 I’m also right there alongside you, struggling to find that creative time we desperately desire❣️, looking for tips that will keep us more organized, and becoming better informed on how to live more intentional creative lives. So what is FeelGood Fibers? FeelGood Fibers will be a marketplace for the exchange of pre-loved fabrics. It will be a place to help you DESTASH, make more CREATIVE SPACE for things you love, and help you find out-of-print fabrics and secondhand fabrics that bring you JOY.😊 But the larger goal and the heart and soul of FeelGood Fibers is meant to be a COMMUNITY for the exchange of ideas. While I may be the one initially drawing the illustrations, creating the content, and curating the playlists — the hope is that eventually, you, too, will be bringing your ideas to FGF to share with the community. We’d love to hear playlists you create; see the illustrations that live inside of you; and to learn from you, too, how to live a more sustainable and intentional life. We ALL thrive more from a vibrant community that teaches, supports and holds space for one another. This has been my guiding vision and dream for this place that we are creating. Mind blowing statistic isn't it? ⁣ ⁣ I am lucky that my #hashimotosdisease was caught in the early stages, so I am able to do the healing work to hopefully get it in remission. ⁣ ⁣ I have had a lot of requests to do some posts on thyroid issues so I'm going to approach this in the same way I do everything else, you have to understand the functions of your body to help heal the body. ⁣ ⁣ So here is crash course on the thyroid:⁣ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐲𝐫𝐨𝐢𝐝?⁣ It's a butterfly-shaped 🦋 gland located just below your voice box⁣ ⁣ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐲𝐫𝐨𝐢𝐝 𝐝𝐨? ⁣ Your thyroid gland produces two hormones, thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) [The numbers correlate to the number of atoms of iodine the hormone contains]. These hormones are responsible for: ⁣ • your body's use of energy - basal metabolic rate⁣ • metabolism⁣ • protein synthesis (creation of protein by cells)⁣ •nerve and bone formation⁣ • fertility⁣ • the health our nails, skin, hair + teeth⁣ •mental state⁣ •helping cholesterol excretion to reduce blood cholesterol levels⁣ •carbohydate absorption⁣ •conversion of carotene (like found in carrots) to Vitamin A ⁣ •increases lipolysis - the chemical breakdown of fats⁣ •regulates body temperature⁣ ⁣ Your thyroid is a powerhouse. Almost all cells have receptors (receive signlas and intitiate a response) for thyroid hormones. The thyroid affects almost every organ of the body. ⁣ ⁣ Studies show that thyroid disorders affect women more than men because of estrogen hormone levels (along with many other factors like stress + environmental factors). Estrogen (sex hormone produced from cholesterol) and thyroid hormones are constantly talking with each other. When estrogen is high or low it significantly affects your thyroid hormone production. I strongly believe in the power of having a morning routine that you love. Mine has quite literally changed my life for the better in so many ways. The majority of people live their lives on autopilot. They wake up. Get dressed. Drive the same route to work every day. Do the same job. Eat the same things. Talk to the same people. Watch the same TV shows. Go to bed and do it all over again the next day. Not only do they physically do the same things every day, but they think the same thoughts daily. Humans have something like 60,000-90,000 thoughts per day. And the majority of those thoughts are on autopilot. They are the same thoughts you think every day. That’s because our brains like to be efficient. It’s easier to think mostly the same thoughts you always think rather than thinking new thoughts all the time. But that’s a whole different topic. Not only are your thoughts on autopilot, but so are your feelings and emotions. So basically you get stuck in a loop. Wake up, feel stressed, feel annoyed, go to work, feel more stress, come home, feel depressed, go to bed, repeat. Because at the end of the day, everyone has a morning routine whether they know it or not. It’s either unintentional and on autopilot, or it’s intentional and beneficial to creating the life they desire. Having an intentional morning routine lets you intentionally set up your day, to have the experiences, thoughts and feelings that you would most like to have.
