Tonight’s session in the stages I managed to capture, I like to build from the ground up. 1st we worked on a solid stance whilst in close 2nd we moved on to bag work with the use of towels to get the head moving without the fear of shots coming back 3rd we took to the tyre with one throwing, giving the other the chance to get confident under fire whilst working out what/where we need to be to block shots 4th we worked on one going to the head whilst the other could only counter off of a slip/roll 5th and last set we had 4 light open rounds where we could put all we’d worked on in to practice. Obviously everybody likes punching each other but it’s good to build in to it slowly whilst taking in the reasoning behind why we’re told to do something. It’s not all about how hard you can punch, it’s the sweet science #thebarnboxingandfitness

SIDE SERIES Side series variations are some of my favourite exercises to do. Why? Because everyone has a weaker and stronger side. This generally comes down to our dominate side taking over and continual movement patterns of day to day activities strengthening it. If you think about it, every time you reach for your bag, brush your teeth, do the ironing.. etc, you get it Over the years that’s a lot of overuse on one side. Working in side lines allows the weaker side to work on its own and build its strength. This picture was taken last summer whilst I was in St Tropez training a client. After a miserable grey day in London, I am in need of some major vitamin D and this view again.

This one might be hard but trust me your mind (and eyes) will thank you! Try taking time everyday to out down the phone or turn off the TV and do something in nature. This could be taking a walk in the fresh air, reading a physical book (yes one with pages) or ever just looking out of the windows on your commute instead of down at your phone. Another idea is to set a certain time every evening after which you will put down your phone for the night. So I have struggled pretty much my whole life with the perception I have of my own body. I’ve always thought that the way my body looks reflects my self worth. If I looked a certain way then I’d be worthy of being attractive to someone. Maybe it’s because I’ve been told if I lost a bit of weight then I’d be pretty which is something I can’t just erase from my memory. But I now realise that my body is just that it’s a body and it’s mine. Every roll every stretch mark and every spot it’s mine and nobody else’s. I am proud of my body and the way it looks and it doesn’t and never will define my self worth. Still I get insecure about certain parts, that ain’t going stop me from feeling empowered and beautiful. What a difference two years makes. ⠀ ⠀ There’s a lot that changed from there to today. My mindset on food, switch to plant-based, jobs, outlook on life, confidence levels, frequency and types of workouts. AND I FEEL SO GOOD. Like the best I’ve felt in YEARS.🤗⠀ ⠀ Two years ago I would flip my lid if I missed one day of my exercise routine. Today, I’ve realized life happens and it’s okay if I only make it to the gym 3-4x a week. I’ve transition my mindset from working out to look better to working out to FEEL better(the outward appearance did just a bonus). ⠀ ⠀ I’m moving my body to feel better, not to mention my mind. Ah, the sweet release of endorphins👌🏻⠀ ⠀ If you are stuck beating yourself up for missing a gym day, or terrorizing yourself for eating a donut(s). I get it. I’ve been there. I promise there’s better things about fitnessing than always feeling guilty. ⠀ ⠀ It just takes consistency and work💕

Day 22 - What I listen to when I work Listening to something whilst working is a must for me. I suffer with tinnitus and silence is deafening. Music and audio books are my answer to sanity... and that’s not an overstatement. I quite often BLOCK myself with internal chatter, a thick black shadow of over thinking, ‘mulling-overs’ soon become a plethora of thoughts and my creativity is quickly stifled and suffocated. The way I get control of this is to listen to audio books, mainly factual rather than story based (else the themes start to creep into my work.) And endless music. It silences the thoughts and allows creativity to sprout, and grow and break free once again. It’s like my subconscious knows what to do better than ‘I’ do or maybe ‘I’ am my subconscious and the chatter is just the bombardment of life... there I go again! I have a huge breadth of music in my library, from Opera, to Drum&Bass, Chopin to Prodigy, Jazz any day, Hans Zimmer gets my melancholic traits, Zero 7, and on and on. I use the right music for the right project. I tend to use the same album till a project is completed, it’s a link, like a channel, like a colour pallet of music. (A month of gypsy kings and Im practically fluent in Spanish!😁) It keeps my over thinking brain occupied happily and constructively whilst I get on with the job at hand. I created this piece today specifically to help me put this into words. I understand it more now. I must say, this challenge is becoming quite an enlightening process! I know when I start throwing my hair up that I'm due a cut. My hair is extremely thick and If I leave it too long I start to get a mini hair panic, I want to chop it all off or throw in a fringe which I always regret. I just need to keep on top of it, keep it layered so it doesn't seem so mane like, and becomes more manageable. Second time I celebrated my birthday in Sri Lanka but this time at the monastery;) Nuns made this day very special for me! Its over 3 months I've been living in the temple. Back at it with a new program! 🔥 As challenging it is, I'm so happy to be focusing on what my body needs right now. Perfectly designed to be quick so I can fit it in around training clients. Keep in mind your programs don’t need to be long, if you do 30-40mins of efficient training a few times a week, that is enough. 5X5 TRAINING TIPS: Slow Negatives on reps for neuromuscular coordination. Explosive concentric actions. Longer rest intervals 1min / exercise. Sufficient rest and recovery between training days. The tempo for all exercises is 3secs negatives, hold 1sec, explode, repeat 5x. DAY 1 💪🏻 UPPER BODY 5X5 Superset 1: Military Press & Pull-ups (change grips each set) Superset 2: Bent-over Row & Bench Press Rest: 1 min between EACH exercise After a week on this Day 1/Day 2 program I'm seeing that my core has switch back on 👌🏻 reducing the pains I'm to feeling. Neuromuscular coordination is key as you don't want to be training when your brain isn't signaling to your body to activate the right muscles! 🤯 It's a work in progress right now, but motivating to keep going and see the stiffness and pains disappear.
