➡️ Caffeine is one of the most consumed products worldwide, famous for its uplifting and energy giving properties.
HOW DOES CAFFEINE WORK? 🤓
➡️ Our brain contains receptors for a molecule named "adenosine". When the adenosine molecule enters the receptors, you feel tired. Essentially, it's the sleepy molecule. However, caffeine blocks adenosine from entering the receptor, and as such, you don't feel #tiredness.
➡️ The primary benefit is, as stated, not feeling tired. This gives people a sense of #energy, and studies have shown a subsequent physical performance enhancement.
➡️ Caffeine also helps boost #dopamine, and as such, helps to improve #cognition and #focus.
➡️ It's advised to dose between 3-9mgs per kg of body weight.
➡️ Too much of a good thing, ain't always the winner. Caffeine has a half-life of 5 hours, meaning half of the caffeine consumed will be out of your system 5 hours later. For example, if you have a coffee at 2pm with 100mg of caffeine, you'll still have 25mg in your bloodstream come midnight (which may lead to sleep problems).

➡️ Caffeine is a great stimulant, and has many cognitive and physical benefits. However, as it has a long half-life, it's advised to only consume in the mornings to prevent sleep problems.
➡️ Moreover, if you're vulnerable to stress, it's probably advised to drink tea instead of coffee, as tea contain L-Theanine which helps to release GABA in the brain (which promotes #relaxation).
