"Real friends good friends are hard to find let's face it"- @onerepublic, Connection.
First off. OneRepublic has been one of my favorite bands since I first heard their album Waking Up when I was a small bean and I've been obsessed with this song since it came out.
In this song, Ryan Tedder sings about how there's so many people in this world and yet he feels so unfulfilled with having no connection. (SO RELATABLE!) We're all looking for a connection aren't we? And when we don't have one we feel stagnant, isolated, blurry, unimportant.
But we do it to ourselves.
We live life waiting and hoping for a connection but we fear being hurt so we block ourselves from any potential harm with a suit of armor, therefore, making us unable to experience connection as well. And at the end of the day we all go home feeling good at first because we make it through with no harm.... but...also feeling alone.
We need to start being vulnerable. We have to start telling people when you just love their existence and being around them makes you happier than anything. We need to start complimenting those people we see on the streets who are wearing that shirt you think is super cool. We need to start saying "not too good" instead of "good! And you?" when people ask us "How are you?" We need to learn this so we can help other people take down their armor too.
Because to live a life without true connection may be okay or "have its good moments" but it won't be as beautiful as it's meant to be lived. ~ The wise words of Isabelle
